New Canadian Distributor – Contact Distribution Ltd

Xilica Canada is happy to announce the signing of Contact Distribution Ltd as their Xilica distributor in Canada.

Effective February 14, 2017, Xilica Canada made the decision to move away from a sales representation model in Canada and back to a distributor sales channel model. As a result, Contact Distribution Ltd has signed on to look after distribution in Canada and provide local technical and service support for dealers Canada wide. Xilica Canada would like to thank everyone at PAG Canada for their Canadian sales representation excellence over the past five years. PAG helped grow sales across Canada and it has been a real pleasure working closely with John, Mark, and Eric at PAG Canada in every regard.

Please bare with us as we complete this transformation as there is some work to do still including,

  • Providing a new Contact Distribution Canadian Dealer Price list (available soon)
  • And completing all of Contacts Xilica inventory level needs

In the interim, where orders and inventory are concerned – Xilica Canada will assist Contact using our head office inventory to efficiently serve Canadian dealers during this transition period.

Aside from where orders are placed and shipped from (now Contact Distribution) and the local support and service relationship dealers will build with Contact, Xilica Canada will provide Contact with technical and service support and will continue to provide dealers with the technical support excellence Xilica Canada has worked hard to establish.

Xilica Introduces New SolaroConsole Universal Software

SolaroConsole is the Neutrino and Uno Series DSP configuration and control software that replaces our previous NeuConsole software and SolaroConsole v1.3.6 is available to download from our web site under Products – SolaroConsole – Downloads. Also see Documents for our web based Solaro Help file which we can easily update in a timely manner without having to wait for a new software version release. To follow will be SolaroConsole video tutorials and a spec sheet.

SolaroConsole provides many operational improvements in speed, features, looks, layout, and new third party control enhancements that our customers will love. But SolaroConsole is much more that that….

SolaroConsole is the beginning of an entirely new universal software strategy for Xilica Audio Design. A universal software that with this first release version provides Universal Dante Configuration and Universal Platform compatibility and in subsequent release versions will eventually provide Universal Protocol Control. No DSP manufacturer has ever provided universal configuration and control from within one universal software before. Until now.

SolaroConsole – Highlights

1. Universal Dante Configuration:
SolaroConsoles universal Dante configuration is made up of three components. (a) It provides the ability to universally configure any brand of Dante interface device on the market; (b) It provides improved Dante Network Device management tools including – Dante configuration done graphically and saved into a project file with automatic audio routing of the Dante matrix along with an improved Dante View screen; (c) The user no longer has to also run the Dante Controller software application as everything is configured and managed from within SolaroConsole.

2. Universal Platform:
Use our new SolaroConsole universal software on your Mac, Window’s PC, Linux, or other platform.

3. Universal Protocol Control:
SolaroConsoles third universal component – Universal Protocol Control (often referred to as 3rd party control) will come later in 2016 but represents the most important universal component of SolaroConsole. Imagine being able to drag & drop say, a projector brand and model, from our SolaroConsole menu onto the Project View work area and with that – being able to control that projector in your SolaroConsole project design using our SolaroControl and other control devices. More to come on this powerful and exciting universal control feature.

4. Enhanced Third Party Control:
With SolaroConsole, we’ve done a lot of work in terms of enhancing what can be controlled via the Solaro family of apps. We’ve made this fully configurable so that the same software has the ability to control virtually any network based gear. That’s good. But what makes this spectacular is the ability to then add this control to SolaroControl. With one touch you can be adjusting your Uno or Neutrino. That’s old news. But now, you can also do anything you have the control string for.

5. Creating a Design Project from Existing Physical Devices Found on the Network:
In the Network View of the application, you can now select desired devices by clicking on the device ICON (Ctrl-Click to select more than one device) and then click the “Create Project from Selected Device(s)” button to create a initial project design based on the devices selected. This function is a quick way for you to start a new design project based on an existing design.

NeuConsole Software Release – Version 5.3.8

Dear Xilica Supporters,

Just released is NeuConsole Software version 5.3.8 (and associated firmware 5.3.8).This version includes a significant feature improvement that enables much better support for 3rd party control programming. We are confident this will resolve the previous inconvenience regarding our control strings (NO MORE check sum and NO MORE mac address). You can download ver 5.3.8 of the NeuConsole software and firmware at www.xilica.com – Products – Neutrino Series (or Uno Series) – under Downloads at the right.

All ver 5.3.8 changes and improvements will be reflected in revised Help files and product guides as soon as possible. The following are some key highlights regarding NeuConsole version 5.3.8.

1) New 3rd Party Control Protocols.

We have designed and added new 3rd party control protocols which will make it more convenient to program and control our products. It also provides additional functionality so that the 3rd party controller can do more comprehensive control. This new protocol works on top of the existing protocols (meaning there is NO change to the existing protocols, we simply added one more TCP port to deal with the new protocols). As well, this NeuConsole ver 5.3.8 release removes the need of having to add and use our Centro SM1 device for simple 3rd party control.

(Technical details…It uses TCP port 10007 and can have up to 4 TCP connections per device. (max 4x3rd party devices – if they choose to always connect on their TCP connection). You can configure up to 100 control points per device. And for each control point you can put in a max 32 characters name for it. And in your control protocol, you simple say “SET name 10.0” to set a control point to 10.0 dB. Or you can do “GET name” to obtain the current value of this control point_.

2) New Side Chain Compressor and Side Chain Expander.

These features have been requested by customers, consultants, and distributors. Now we have it.

3) Improved Device IP Reset Indication

We found that some customers had issues with our original procedures for initiating a device IP reset (especially on Uno processors as they do not have a front panel LCD screen). We have enhanced the mechanism to provide more feedback. In this revised procedure, if you hold the IP reset button while turning on the device – the yellow Network LED on the front panel will start flashing to indicate it has detected an IP Reset Request. You now release the IP reset button while the network LED is still flashing and it will perform the IP reset operation. Once released, all LED’s on the device will start flashing indicating IP reset success. They are set to flash for 30 seconds and then stop but you do not have to wait for them to stop flashing before moving on as the IP Reset is completed the moment they begin flashing. (This applies to DSP devices as well as our Mini control).

If you have any further questions regarding version 5.3.8 changes or have any difficulties that we need to know about please contact support@xilica.com.

Xilica at Buffalo Bills Football Stadium

In June 2015 Xilica Audio Design will supply three (3) Uno processors and thirty-six (36) custom Mini S4K1 controls for installation at the Buffalo Bills NFL football stadium.
– One Uno U0816-N Dante enabled DSP will receive audio sources via Dante network audio and along with two Uno U0816 DSP models distribute four audio sources to 36 rooms.
– Each of the 36 rooms will have a “custom” Mini S4K1 network wall mount control installed for source selection and level control. Xilica’s Mini controls are DHCP enabled network devices and are visible in network view of the processors software along with all connected processors and devices on the Uno network.
Our standard Mini controls have a 2 gang front plate. When the integrator discovered that the back boxes in each of the 36 rooms were 3 gang boxes we proposed providing the S4K1’s mounted to custom 3 gang front plates. Since we have our own factory Xilica was able to manufacture these custom plates quickly and ahead of schedule for the stadium installation.
A case study of this project will be created and added to our web site once work is completed.

Xilica at ISE 2015

The Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) trade show is held in Amsterdam in early February each year . ISE is an excellent Pro AV trade show with a focus on the integration market and our Xilica Europe office always participates (the Xilica Europe office is located just outside of Amsterdam). Henk Boonstra and Marco Koorstra from the Xilica Europe office, Eddie Tam and Tim Cheung from our Xilica Asia office, and Barry Steinburg from the Xilica Canada office greeted customers, made them a cup of coffee, demonstrated our DSP and control products and provided training to our European distributors and customers. And we can not forget to mention Tim Wegmann and David Klecha from our distributor in Germany – Steinbild Media – and to thank them both for their help with customers, constructing/dismantling our booth, and for providing insightful conversation and a lot of fun as well. Thanks guys.
Introduced at ISE 2015 were five (5) new Rio Series Dante interface products (2×2 and 4×4 I/O wall plate and 1/4 rack formats and a 16×16 w XLRs – all available soon) and our new iOS control app for Neutrino and Uno processors called SolaroControl. Plus we had a few samples on hand of what the revised front plate will eventually look like for our Mini controls and which received positive comments from everyone.
My appreciation to Henk, Marco, Tim, Eddie, Tim Wegmann, and David Klecha for making my visit and the show so comfortable, interesting, and educational. And most of all, a feeling of “family” which is an important part of the Xilica business philosophy.

Xilica Introduces SolaroControl

In February 2015 Xilica Audio Design introduced their iOS control app for Neutrino and Uno Series processors called SolaroControl.
SolaroControl is unique from its competitors. Where most provide a predesigned GUI with their iOS app – SolaroControl allows the user to program the controls they want to see and use on their iOS device using a one step drag & drop configuration from within the processors software (exactly the same way as we do for our Touch 7 touch control).
Plus you can create multiple control pages with password protection for each page.

Xilica Participates in Australia Sales & Tech Seminar

Xilica Audio Design’s distributor in Australia – Group Technologies – organized a 5 day sales and technical seminar at their facility just north of Melbourne July 14-18th. In attendance were Group Technologies manufactures from around the world (Xilica, Nexo, DigiCo, RCF, and Camco to name a few). This was an excellent opportunity for Xilica to work closely with Group Technologies and to support their clients in that region. Attending on behave of Xilica Audio Design were Eddie Tam from our Asia office (head of software engineering) and Barry Steinburg from our head office in Canada (sales manager). Sales manager Barry Steinburg commented “Everyone at Xilica would like to thank Group Technologies for this wonderful opportunity to work closely with them and their clients. Based on how professional and well managed this very successful week long seminar was Eddie and I left Australia with a new reference for what distributors are capable of, how such seminars should be managed, and the depth of what can be accomplished”.

Xilica at Infocomm 2014

For the second time in four years Xilica Audio Design Canada redesigned its booth for the Vegas 2014 Infocomm show. Three larger full size equipment racks positioned out front housed all the Xilica products in use and on display and each rack had its own computer, screen and keyboard for improved customer software and DSP operational access. For the first time we used a three display video wall situated above the three equipment racks providing the best Xilica booth visibility thus far at Infocomm. Our thanks to Andrea in Media Marketing for her work creating the multiple videos in use on the video wall.
Infocomm 2014 was the official introduction of the Uno-N Series DSP – our Uno Series processors with Dante network audio on board. That makes our Uno-N Series the only DSP in the world in its price and performance class providing Dante network audio.
Plus we presented the latest version of our touch control – the revised Touch 7SM model and demonstrated our free NeuPanel/Touch control software (control Uno and Neutrino DSP with Android devices) and our free XTouch control software (control XD and XP Series DSP with Android devices or via our Touch 7SM touch control).

Xilica at NAMM / A picture is worth a thousand words.

Tim Cheung from the Xilica Asia office and Donny Chow, Barry Steinburg, and Andrea Chow from the Canadian office represented Xilica Audio Design at the January 2014 NAMM show in California.  Sales manager Barry Steinburg commented “We spend a fair amount of time and focus educating DSP clients about why we use high sample rate, high bit rate, floating point architecture in our X Series processor and thus I get asked often about the reality of our statements regarding our DSP audio performance.  Just before leaving for NAMM I was going through a favourite high end HiFi magazine and an article  caught my eye.  We OEM one of our digital processors to Legacy Audio – a US designer and manufacturer of fabulous high end HiFi loudspeakers – and there was an article and a small picture of some new Legacy speakers being demonstrated at a HiFi show in Denver.  Of course they had borrowed some very expensive source and amplifier electronics to optimize the performance of their speakers.  I did some research and discovered that the list price of the electronics was $200,000.00.  And the list price for the speakers was $20,000.00.  Wow!  I read the short article and was about to move on when I noticed a black object positioned on the carpet below the racked electronics.  The picture is small so a magnifying glass was required in order to tell what the black object sitting on the carpet was.  I was thrilled to see our XP series processor sitting there. They say a picture is worth a thousands words. So for the NAMM show, every time someone asked me about the X- Series audio performance I simply handed them an enlarged photo copy of the magazine article picture on which I had hand written the $220,000.00 total list price of the speakers and electronics and the $1210.00 list price of our XP processor sitting on the carpet.  It worked.  One picture – no words required”.
